Commissioned by the Kresge Foundation for the Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellowship series, this short film is a collaboration with Detroit-based performance artist, Melanie Manos. The piece addresses the invisibility of women’s work and the struggles women face in their attempts to “climb the ladder.” It draws inspiration from the performance and film work of artists such as Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Maya Deren, and Yvonne Rainer who both used motion and movement of bodies in space to convey the sense of structural entrapment and the desire to manifest a more full autonomy through bodily expressions.
