In 2012, my partner and I started Mothlight Microcinema inside our downtown Detroit loft. It continues today in various venues around Detroit. The semi-nomadic microcinema screens experimental and avant-garde film, video, and animation. Acting as co-directors, co-curators, and projectionists, we highlight the work of local filmmakers as well as visiting filmmakers through screenings and workshops. For many years, Mothlight ran a filmmaker-in-residence program, partnering with cross-border organizations such as Mobile Frames and Media City Film Festival in Windsor, Ontario. We have been community sponsors at the Ann Arbor Film festival for several years and have collaborated with the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and the Film-makers’ Cooperative to present Projection Instructions, a 16mm multiple projection performance in January 2015.
