Commissioned by Sidewalk Detroit for its Now:Future summer series of public art events, this piece is an original dance piece by dancer/choreographer Marsae Mitchell. Taking inspiration from the songs and words of Nina Simone, Mitchell crafted a poetic and choreographed response to the institutions of white supremacy that have affected and continue to affect people of color. Shot on Detroit’s Belle Isle and the Dequindre Cut. Concept, writing, and choreography by Marsae Mitchell.
